Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been a panelist and presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering for the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as weapons control, the budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal and went on numerous trips together with the President Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
